Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine issued the following statement regarding Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's proposed energy plan today, saying this is the type of platform the Legislature and the next governor must build on to address the state's energy needs and opportunities, along with our economy:
“The announcement today of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s energy policy agenda is encouraging news for New York State, especially Central and Northern New York. Demonstrating leadership in the race to be our next governor, I am pleased that Andrew has set an agenda that includes a permanent successor to Power for Jobs in the mold of the Energize New York legislation I sponsored and passed in the Senate with broad bipartisan support.
“Governor Paterson has been instrumental in this process and has stoodstrong in the face of Assembly opposition. It’s critically important that
the next governor of this state stand strong in support of improving on
Power for Jobs to make it permanent, sustainable and a tool to create new
jobs, not just sustain the quarter of a million jobs that now depend on
these benefits.
“Likewise, I am encouraged by his focus on improving our state’s energy
independence, reducing taxes on energy, and facilitating weatherization and
home efficiency improvements that will create jobs. The Attorney General’s
proposed energy plan is a strong platform to begin discussions to build a
consensus that will help us move this state forward using sound energy
policy to foster job growth that benefits all of us.
“I look forward to working with the next governor to continue the work and
the progress we have made in using our state’s resources to create and
preserve jobs, while making our state more energy independent and
efficient.”--State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine
